Job Summary & Responsibilities

The Liquidity Risk Technology team builds, supports and maintains a suite of systems to facilitate GS’s global Funding business from Trading in the Front Office (Global Liquidity Products Desk) through to Settlement Operations and liquidity risk management (Corporate Treasury).  This function sits within the broader Finance Risk Technology group.

A role now exists for a full time developer to join the Liquidity Risk application development team, focused on collateral management and repo trading platforms.

The development team is working on strategic global projects for our diverse user base.  The global team has recently rolled out new solutions to support the ever changing range of products that the desk is trading, including a complete new system for repo trade booking and risk management; or developed new applications for liquidity risk management (e.g. MLO/ALM) in line with the increased industry & regulatory focus in this area in recent years.




RESPONSIBILITIES
This role is for a Project Manager who is keen to remain technically hands-on and be involved in the full development cycle.  Leadership skills (project & people) are strongly desirable, as is a knowledge of financial products.  Prior knowledge of trading or risk management would be advantageous.

Typical responsibilities involve working with our global team to deliver projects across the regions and various user groups, possibly managing delivery from developers in different geographic locations.  This includes requirement gathering, specification, design, development, testing and support for the range of stakeholders involved in funding the firm.  The successful candidate will have extensive interaction with our clients and it is key that they can from strong working partnerships to deliver for the business.  These are predominantly the Global Liquidity Products Desk, Strategists, Corporate Treasury and Funding Operations, as well as other technology teams.  Constant communication and good relationship-building will be critical with developers and stakeholders alike.  High profile and mission critical projects will require candidates to become familiar with the underlying businesses and functions we support.
 
We are using a wide range of technologies, methodologies and tools: Java, C# and C++ programming languages, UNIX, Linux and Windows operating systems, Sybase databases, scripting, automated builds, testing and deployment, in-house adaptations of messaging and other middleware tools.

Typical responsibilities and functions performed by a Project Manager within GS are as follows:
o Working with our global leadership team to manage projects across the regions and various user groups
o Point of contact for key projects for senior business and technology management in the organisation
o Mentoring and training team members
o Hands-on involvement/development in multiple projects
o Ownership for planning and delivery of key projects
o Proactive input to improve system and team efficiency
o Prioritisation and planning of projects and enhancements
o Work with other managers to create development and career plans for team members

DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS

Recent market events have put the spotlight on Risk Management. The Financial Regulators are laying out a new landscape, resulting in a number of large scale, high-profile technology projects, which offer both technical and business challenges.

This role offers the chance to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and will provide exposure to the entire Funding business at a time of exciting industry advances in the discipline of liquidity risk management.

The successful candidate will work on the proprietary SecDB platform – a street-leading front-office risk management platform, encompassing an interpreted, scripting language (Slang) and embedded object database.

Basic Qualifications

• At least 7 years of IT industry experience.
• Professional experience and strong knowledge in at least one of Java or C++
• At least 3 years experience of managing projects, with responsibility for project delivery across multiple team members
• Knowledge of relational database technologies, especially Sybase
• Willingness to embrace a proprietary development platform and language (SecDB and Slang)
• Track record of excellent client service and project delivery

• Demonstrate strong problem solving & analytical skills
• Have excellent communication skills (written and oral)
• Be a strong team player (required to work extensively with other global teams)
• Have the ability to build strong user relationships and have experience of partnering with clients to deliver benefits to the business
• Be hands-on and take ownership of issues to ensure follow-through
• Have a strong desire to learn about funding and liquidity risk management techniques

Preferred Qualifications

• Have knowledge of some area of trading, and basic familiarity with one or more categories of financial instruments
• Experience of managing complex technical environments
• Technical skills to include linux/solaris, scripting langauages (Perl, shell), enterprise-level messaging, experience of automated builds, testing & deployment
