Job Summary & Responsibilities

Equity Derivatives is the business of trading all forms of Equity Derivative Risk including equity options (both over-the-counter and exchange listed), securitised derivatives, swaps and convertible bonds. Our business spans the full scope of distribution channels (retail, corporate, hedge fund and institutional) and uses state-of-the-art technology and risk management tools to provide a competitive edge.

The Equity Derivatives Technology Team is a technology team within Equities / Global Derivatives, providing technical solutions to the Synthetic Product Group (SPG), Volatility, Equity Exotics, Convertible Bonds and Securitized Derivatives businesses worldwide, spanning from global order management solutions and market connectivity technology through to real-time trading and hedging applications. We work closely with the quant teams to enhance and build out the global risk management systems as well as with Core Derivative Technology to leverage the common derivatives processing platform.

The Equity Derivatives SPG Ops Technology Team is focused on developing tailored business technology solutions driven by Operational and Trading Desk requirements - being able to do so in a scalable and efficient way is fundamental to the future growth of the business and has strong support from senior levels within Operations and Trading. Team’s responsibilities range from building strategic new applications and workflows used by the Operations team to control and manage the business “post trade”, through to providing support for the Front to Back derivatives trade flow.


RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a key role developing and supporting the expansion of the strategic Equity Derivatives platform. This role is focused on the strategic flows, designing and developing applications to support operations in booking / amending trades, trade processing and downstream flow and confirmation of trades, client reporting and settlements, reconciliations and corporate action handling etc.

The successful candidate will need to:
• Design, develop, test and document highly reliable client and server-side systems in a structured, disciplined, and fast-moving environment.
• Be comfortable implementing new systems using Goldman Sachs’ proprietary database and development platform (Secdb/Slang), Java, C++, SQL, and Perl.
• Develop within a controlled process including design and code reviews.
• Support the production environment, assist in the diagnosis and resolution of incidents, maintain the stability and integrity of systems.
• Form strong client relationships with traders, operations, and controllers, and other technology groups in a front office environment.
• Become an integral part of a global technology team.

Basic Qualifications

• Strong development background using one or more procedural or object oriented technologies such as C++, C#, Java, or Perl.
• Development experience using relational databases and SQL.
• Experience with distributed systems and multi-tier architectures.
• Highly motivated, pro-active and capable of working under pressure without compromising development processes.
• Strong, committed and reliable team player and strong communicator, able to take direction but also willing to contribute to discussions on design and strategy.
• Strong problem solving skills/analytical skills.
• Experience and/or interest in financial services and trading businesses.
• Possess client-facing skills to be able to deal with and form good relationships with the business and other technology groups, both from a support and day to day project work perspective.
• Have the discipline and interpersonal skills to work well in a truly global environment, complementing teams in other locations.
• Suitable educational background in computer science.
• Minimum 3 years relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

• SQL skills, ideally Sybase.
• Experience with UNIX/LINUX development environments.
• Automated testing tools (e.g. JUnit/NUnit)
• Familiarity with messaging architectures.
