Network Development Engineer I – NDE700
Dell has expanded its networking solutions with the acquisition of Force10 Networks, Inc., a leader in high-performance datacenter networking. Force10’s networking capabilities complement Dell’s datacenter solutions portfolio, enabling it to offer customers a broader range of enterprise offerings.
Responsible for the design and development activities associated with network switching products and network management systems. Drives product development and test programs with external vendors to ensure maximum product quality and schedule fidelity. Performs complex technical analysis of software, hardware, and networking systems including wired/wireless Ethernet, Fibre Channel and converged infrastructures
· Conducts analysis, prepares reports, and drives networking product implementation and delivery.
· Defines network product requirements and implements roadmap products in consultation with network marketing.
· Designs network solutions that effectively utilize the capabilities of Dell Networking products.
· Coordinates with multiple vendors/departments to deliver network-related hardware, software, and management systems.
· Investigates and resolves problems, inefficiencies, and performance issues.
· Works with Marketing to develop a roadmap the delivers leading-edge products that are aligned with Dell’s overall networking strategy.
· Researches emerging network technologies and makes recommendations based on future customer needs.
· Works with internal development teams to ensure appropriate usage of Dell networking equipment and software in customer-facing solutions.
· Provides ongoing information to leadership, customers, and peers regarding networking products, programs, enhancement
· Controls, tests and analyzes the status and performance of all network components.
· Identifies, diagnoses and resolves problems of moderate scope and complexity.
· Assists senior level network engineers to analyze and provide innovative solutions for network engineering and design projects.
· Applies full understanding of WLAN/LAN/SAN internetworking design elements including cost versus performance tradeoffs, protocol interoperability, network architecture development, and requirements for testing / proof of concept.
· Mentors other associates on network technology development/implementation
Qualifications
· 10-12 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
· Understanding of networking hardware and software system architecture.
· Good understanding of Layer-3 protocols such as xSTP, VLAN, LACP, Q-in-Q, PBB etc.
· Excellent C programming skills.
· Understanding of Layer-2 or Layer-3 forwarding using vendor chipsets desirable.
· Understanding of Network Management System architecture, design and operation.
· Understanding of networking hardware and software interactions, and able to apply this understanding to resolve issues.
· Able to easily achieve mastery of new tools, product features, networking technologies and development processes.
· Proficient in the use of traffic generation equipment, packet sniffers and similar tools to assist in root-cause analysis of issues.
· Able to communicate effectively with customers to gather critical information needed to resolve either their network/configuration issues or internal product issues.
· Post-graduation in a relevant area from a reputed college/university preferred.
