Job Summary & Responsibilities
Market Risk Technology (MRT) is responsible for the systems used for the management, monitoring and analysis of market risk within Goldman Sachs. The team works closely with the Market Risk Analysts and Quantitative Modelers to calculate the Firm’s trading risks, such as Value-at-Risk (VaR), scenario analysis and risk decomposition for all our trading desks and financial products globally. The risk is overseen by our regulators and internal Risk Committee which sets appropriate limits for each trading desk.DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS
Recent market events have put the spotlight on Risk Management. The Financial Regulators are laying out a new landscape, resulting in a number of large scale, high-profile technology projects, which offer both technical and business challenges.
This role offers the chance to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and will provide exposure to the Market Risk Management business as well as related areas (Front-office trading businesses). Because the Market Risk remit encompasses risk management for the entire firm, there is an opportunity to learn about all financial instruments traded by Goldman Sachs.
The Goldman Sachs Market Risk Management function is cutting edge, pushing the boundaries of large-scale grid computing, java caching & database warehouse technologies. The successful candidate will work on the proprietary SecDB platform – a street-leading front-office risk management platform, encompassing an interpreted, scripting language (Slang) and embedded object database.
This computation is extremely compute-intensive, so optimisation and parallel computation are a significant focus, as we find ourselves constantly pushing the boundaries of large-scale grid computing and Java caching technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This role is for a strong technical developer who has been involved in the full development cycle. Knowledge of financial products is strongly desirable and prior knowledge of risk would also be advantageous, but is not required.
Typical responsibilities would involve working with our global team to deliver projects across the regions and various user groups, while still maintaining ownership for planning and delivery of your own project deliverables. The successful candidate will have extensive interaction with our clients (risk and quantitative analysts), as well as other technology teams, focusing on developing models and systems for calculating, analyzing, and reporting the Firm’s trading risks. Responsibilities would span full life cycle of development, from initial analysis and requirements gathering with users, through design, development, testing, release and support. High profile and mission critical projects will require candidates to become familiar with the underlying businesses and product lines we support.
