Job Summary & Responsibilities

Operations Technology supports the operations on all products across the fixed income, equities, derivatives and securities desks. The team comprises cross product platforms to support various operations functions like clearance, settlement, confirmations, regulatory reporting, treasury, ledgers, reference data and reconciliation.

Client Valuation Team is part of the Operations Technology team. Our team is responsible for providing accurate and timely valuations to Institutional Sales and Prime Brokerage clients for their derivative portfolios, cash securities and structured notes across the majority of Franchise and Prime Brokerage businesses. Clients request valuations for a variety of reasons including NAV calculation, financial reporting and portfolio reconciliation.

Our application, Client Portfolio System (CPS), is the tool used by Valuation Operations for the securities division for accumulating, scheduling and distributing the vast majority of valuations that flow directly from front-office systems to clients without intervention. We are in the process of building a new strategic platform CVAL to further improve the product coverage for valuations and to provide more straight through processing.  

The developers in the valuations team are responsible for the build out of that platform across all product lines and there are several in-flight projects to facilitate this. The valuations global team are also responsible for ensuring that the flows from upstream systems and the workflow are all functional via the follow-the-sun support model.

The candidate will be expected to

- Contribute to global projects to build out the CVAL and CPS system to cover an extended range of products and functions. The focus for the year will be to build the CVAL platform to source the valuations data from the FO systems, a robust report rendering platform and a integrated workflow desktop for operation using valuation data.
- Work closely with users in gathering requirements, managing expectations and providing updates
- Participate in requirement analysis and design discussions within the global team.
- Design and develop new enhancement and features for the current valuations platform
- Provide daily support to operation users to ensure normal and smooth operations of client valuation such as Client Portfolio setup, client inquiry, Sales Inquiry, manual pricing uploading and Valuation report monitoring.

Candidates for the role should have an interest in satisfying the commercial objectives of the project as well as technically appropriate solutions that meet requirements. Technical experience should include Java development within a large project. In addition experience with Slang and SecDB development and/or Sybase would be advantageous. The role also requires someone who has some knowledge of derivatives, bonds, money markets and mortgage products can communicate well with users for day-to-day issues and to assist with the specification of functional enhancements.

Basic Qualifications

-Java J2SE in a Linux or Unix environment
-Strong Java experience including multithreading, synchronization, and Java design patterns
-Web development experience including JSP, Servlet, JavaScript, HTTP & HTML
-Sybase or other RDBMS programming experience
-Banking experience within a securities division
-Strong interpersonal and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

-Sybase development and database design
-Web Development using JSP/Struts/Tomcat
-Experience with JUnit/DBUnit or other testing frameworks
-Scripting languages such as Perl or shell scripting
